A Note from the Director

May 2023

Gathering Lighters,

The month of May markets our 9th year in our journey! Together, we have built a home for those who want to practice their freedom to believe in the power of Love and Light.

During our last nine years, we have laughed and cried; we’ve seen birth and growth, illness and death, sadness and fear—Yet our strong commitment to each other and the world has been to each other and the world to bring joy, love and light have remained constant.

Three years ago we struggled through having to close our doors due to COVID. So we turned TGLH into a sewing shop, where we made masks for anyone who needed one. We provided them to an emergency room at a hospital in need, so the doctors and nurses could feel safe. People from our community were able to stop by and get them when needed, and making them for the children was ones of our greatest joys.

I was fighting my own battles and ended up in the hospital having multiple surgeries. During one surgery, I had a stroke which left me unable to walk! I need help and a rehab center was where I had to go. Blessed with a strong and supportive family, I was not alone.

Thanks also to my TGLH family, who came and loved me through my window, by doing a drumming in the courtyard! Gratitude and joy supported and carried me to walk again. Thank you!!!

Opening the doors after COVID, we were given a donation which covered our bills and we could welcome you ALL HOME. And next year we will celebrate our 10th Anniversary because of you, our TGLH family. How fortunate we are!

Gratitude is my word for the year. It is a great feeling to be carried by your care and love. May we call celebrate the joy of belonging to a place where others come to be free to learn, heal, grow and lead — and be the boss of self!

Happy May,

June May Kortum
